A static shock can happen when electricity is released between two electrically charged items – typically walking on a nylon carpet and touching a metal doorknob, or photocopier. Many surfaces generate static electricity that needs to be controlled. The following are our two options – anti static mats and ESD mats:
The difference between anti static mats and ESD ( electro static discharge ) mats: Anti static mats by their properties help dissipate static building, whereas ESD matting in conjunction with ESD accessories ground and drain static cut off the problem to: 10^(6) – 10^(9)
The effectiveness of an anti-static mat boils down to Ohms (electrical resistance). Static dissipative matting provides an electrical resistance range of 106 – 109 Ohms. ESD flows in a slower manner when compared to conductive matting (which drains ESD faster with a lower Ohms rate). The bottom line is, there are several ways you can protect your equipment:
STANDARD MATS
Our standard mats which are made from 100% ECONYL regenerated BCF polyamide, twisted & heat set multifilament yarn do have antistatic behaviour which helps dissipate static: Approx 1011 ohms (ISO 10965) – Personal Charging: 2kV antistatic (ISO6356)
These mats can be supplied on either a direct purchase, or rental basis.
ESD MATS ( Kumfi Pebble )
These mats guarantee the suppression of static discharge through a safe discharge of the charge. These mats are made of materials that dissipate and conduct through a grounding point.
These mats are direct purchase only – see product information on our range and accessories.
